The area of Benalmadena can seem a confusing place at first as it comprises three distinct - and very different - areas: Benalmadena Costa, Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmadena Pueblo.

Benalmadena Costa

Benalmadena Costa is the most popular holiday resort of the three, having the obvious bucket and spade appeal, as it is on the coast (Costa). Benalmadena Costa also has numerours hotels and a seafront string of restaurants, cafés, bars and shops. Many foreign residents have invested in Spanish real estate in the Benalmadena Costa area, buying holiday homes in Benalmadena's fabulous Arabic harbour complex, with its layered terraces and whipped-cream domes. Benalmadena Costa is also home to a world-class casino, the 18-hole Torrequebrada golf complex and the British run Colegio Internacional, which accepts students from 3-17 years.

Arroyo de la Miel

Travel around 1km into the hills and you reach Arroyo de la Miel; a lively centre with modern housing, shops and restaurants and home to the Coast's largest amusement park - Tivoli World. Arroyo de la Miel has the largest population in the area, including a healthy contingent of foreign residents. There are also two cultural centres here; one with a continuous programme of events in the auditorium, as well as an English/Spanish library.

Benalmadena Pueblo

Further up the hill is Benalmadena Pueblo whose origins are thought to date back to Phoenician times. Benalmadena Pueblo is a charming small village of narrow twisting streets and whitewashed houses with spectacular panoramic views of the coast.
